AT WHAT AGE SHOULD THEY HAVE THEIR FIRST DENTAL APPOINTMENT?
It is best to start at an early age, we advise starting as soon as the teeth begin to erupt. These early visits are about familiarising your child with the dental office and this also enables us to discuss any dietary and oral hygiene concerns you may have with caring for your child’s teeth and gums. This will help us ensure that from an early age your little ones teeth are in tip top condition!
HOW OFTEN SHOULD THEY ATTEND THE CLINIC?
It is very important to bring your children to the dentist regularly, we recommend 6 monthly visits, to help familiarise them and build up their confidence in the dental environment. This appointment will involve a thorough dental screening, and may include a scale and clean. We will let you know when dental radiographs are required for your child and if any fluoride supplementation is necessary, such as a professional fluoride treatment.
Regular maintenance visits will enable us to detect any areas of concern such as dental caries and any areas of poor oral hygiene so that these can be addressed early, this will also enable us to screen for any developing orthodontic concerns, that need early attention.
WILL YOU SHOW MY CHILD HOW TO BRUSH PROPERLY?
As part of your child’s preventative appointment we will assess how successful they are with the current oral hygiene routine they have in place. We will then discuss any areas of poor hygiene and where improvements can be made. As your child grows their dental habits will need to grow and develop with them, as such we will discuss any modifications to their brushing and when to introduce flossing and any dietary modifications that may be required.
