At Dental Options, we are able to offer orthodontic services to our patients. Dr Hurrell has completed post graduate training in orthodontics and the Myobrace system, and as such we can now treat early intervention cases through to full treatment cases.
We also offer Clear Correct – which is a series of clear aligners used to treat certain malocclusions.

WHAT AGE SHOULD I START TREATMENT?
Did you know that the best time to have your child evaluated for orthodontic concerns is 7-9 years old. At this time the 6 year old molars are establishing in the occlusion and the incisors are erupting, allowing us to assess for crossbites, open bites, protrusion, ectopic eruption, Class III development, diastemas and oral habits, which can require early treatment.
Early assessment is great, but if you’ve missed the boat it’s not too late. Most people think that orthodontic treatment is typically for teenagers and this isn’t completely wrong, when early intervention isn’t required this is the usual time for most people to complete their orthodontic treatment. Meanwhile adult treatment can be started at any time. So there is never a wrong time to start improving your smile and confidence.
WHAT CAUSES CROOKED TEETH?
Crooked teeth can be due to a variety of factors! Some people think they inherit big teeth and a small jaw? Well, genetics certainly does play a factor in crooked teeth but so does the environment.
There are so many things that affect how we grow and develop. From medical issues such as enlarged tonsils and other airway obstructions which can inhibit nasal breathing, tongue ties and allergies to oral habits such as digit and thumb sucking, to over use of pacifiers.
WHAT CAN ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT HELP TO CORRECT?
Orthodontic treatment can be used to treat a vast range of conditions from functional issues such as crossbites, open bites, protrusion, Class III malocclusions and ectopic eruption. To aesthetic concerns such as crooked teeth and diastemas (gaps). Orthodontics can even be used as an adjunct to improve the aesthetics and bite/function for any restorative treatment that is required.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT?
Orthodontic treatment can involve a variety of different treatment options, these can vary from oral appliances such as expanders, Myobrace, braces to clear aligners. Not every individual is suitable for each treatment type and some people will require a combination of appliances.
HOW LONG WILL TREATMENT TAKE?
Treatment timing is different for every case, and prior to starting treatment, a treatment time estimate will be provided. However, everyone starts somewhere different and reacts differently to treatment.
In cases of early treatment; it may be limited to a few months depending on the level of correction required while full cases may take a couple of years.
