Who doesn’t want a whiter, brighter smile? At Dental Options, we are here to help you achieve the whiter smile you have always wanted. Whitening is a process in which stained and discoloured teeth are lightened.
WHAT CAUSES TEETH TO BECOME STAINED AND DISCOLOURED?
Teeth become stained and discoloured for a number of reasons including the normal aging process of the teeth. Other causes include tea and coffee consumption, tobacco use, staining due to diet and developmental issues during tooth formation such as tetracycline staining. Some stains are external and are able to be removed during a routine scale and clean, whilst other staining requires whitening, your dentist will discuss if whitening is appropriate for you.
CAN ANYONE HAVE WHITENING DONE?
Whitening is suitable for most individuals, and your dentist will discuss your suitability and the methods available.
Did you know that whitening your teeth needs to be completed in a healthy oral environment, as it can aggravate and worsen dental decay. As such it is important that you have a thorough clinical examination and possibly radiographs completed prior to undergoing any whitening procedures.
HOW IS WHITENING COMPLETED?
At Dental Options we offer two options for whitening:
a take home whitening system
and also an in chair option
The typical method used for whitening is the take home process, this involves taking dental impressions which are then used to fabricate custom trays, the process is then completed at home via a night or day time application. Results typically take 2 weeks.
In some cases the in chair option is used, this involves a process in which the whitening agent is applied in the dental chair and activated by light, this system is effective immediately, but is usually supplemented with take home whitening.
To discuss these options further and what will be best for your specific dental needs, give us a call to arrange a consult today.
ARE THERE ANY RISKS INVOLVED WITH WHITENING?
As with any medical procedure there are risks which will be discussed with you at the time of consultation. However, the risks with whitening are limited to dental sensitivity.
WHAT IS THE COST OF TEETH WHITENING?
The cost of teeth whitening will depend on the system by which whitening is completed. Your dentist will be able to discuss all associated fees at the time of consultation.
